Team Work

The big choice is coming up and the two leading candidates for the Democratic Party is Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, So why not both? Some people cannot even decide witch one to vote for anyway. If they are both so great then why don’t they decide to work together? They can make change as a team instead of tearing each other down and then neither one would win the presidential race. In Maureen Dowd’s column, http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/26/opinion/26dowd.html?ref=opinion , she speaks to choose “Hillary or nobody.” I ask again, why all or nothing? Each candidate has big goals for the United States. Why not bring Hillary voters and Obama voters together and get this fighting done with? Now the big issue is who would take the back seat? In my opinion it doesn’t really matter. President or vice president, they both work together at the same place. All they have to do is put their differences aside, and make the change they both want. It’s not impossible. It could be done. From reading Dowd’s Column Clinton may be faced with the decision weather or not to take the Vice president spot. She might lose against Obama anyway, so might as well take the opening. I mean when you think about putting pride aside and coming together as a strong team would be a good example for the American public.

THE GREAT COMPROMISE

The article entitled “Team Work” posted to the blog “JENNASA 18 ON POLITICS” points out how close the race is between Obama and Clinton and then asks the question that has probably been asked by a lot of us. Couldn’t they just work together? Why couldn’t one of them be President while the other one takes the seat as Vice-president?

In theory, this would be great, but I tend to have my doubts as to whether we will actually see that happen. Certain professions demand personality traits and ego is high on the list when you run for President. You are out there in front of millions stating that you have what it takes to run the country. You are so good that the majority of the nation is going to put a check mark next to your name at the voting booth. I can’t see that ego taking a back seat.

Suppose the candidates did declare that they were going to be running mates, how would that work? Who would take the back seat? There is a picture that keeps running through my mind. I keep seeing Hillary Clinton in the role of “Mom”. As President or Vice-President, she is shaking her finger at Barack Obama, second-guessing every decision. It’s a no-win situation for Obama.

I hope Jennasa 18 is right and that we see a meeting of the minds. We are lacking the spirit of cooperation and communication for which both candidates stand. It would be great for our country. We could call it the Great Compromise, version 2.0. I’m not going to hold my breath. My experience has contributed to the fact that I am very jaded and often cynical. I would be among the first to embrace a Clinton/Obama (Obama/Clinton?) ticket I look back longingly at the time when I would have believed it possible.

I defiantly agree with Jennasa18 that Obama and Clinton should work together. It should not be all or nothing; it should be about the greater good. Shouldn’t they be happy that possibly one Democrat could win the race? I believe that I could be done.. but someone is going to have to swallow some pride (I personally think Clinton should ride shotgun). They wouldn’t even have to fight over the important issues. They stand for pretty much the same issues; it’s just the fine tuning they would have to agree upon. Coming together would defiantly be a strong and positive influence for the public. Maybe some good could actually come out of politics. Now if we could just get Clinton and Obama to agree to Jennasa18’s thoughts it would be phenomenal! But in all reality I do not think that either one of then would be the better person and do it for a hoping society.
